Srinagar, Jul 20 (KNO): As a show of solidarity against drug abuse, the All Sikh Minority Employees Association Kashmir on Saturday organized a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” walkathon in Srinagar, in the early morning. The march began at the historic Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) in Lal Chowk and concluded at Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Batmaloo. As per the details collected by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the event aimed to spread awareness about the growing menace of drug addiction in the Valley and promote unity in the fight against substance abuse. Moreover, police officials, Sikh minority employees, members from various government departments, civil society groups and local residents took part in the walkathon. Participants carried banners and placards, carrying anti-drug messages and raised slogans calling for a drug-free Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion, the organizers highlighted the importance of involving communities, especially the youth and working class, in efforts to curb drug addiction. They also called for collective action and stronger public awareness campaigns to address the crisis. “This walkathon is not just a march, but it is a movement. We want to send a clear message that society must come together to fight the growing threat of drug abuse,” one of the people present told KNO. He said the initiative received appreciation from participants and onlookers alike, with many urging more such campaigns across the region to safeguard the future of the younger generation—(KNO)
